About Apiana Greif Support

There are none of us who will live without going through the grief process, as death and loss are a fundamental part of life, but if we can come to it with the support and the understanding of its innate cycles, we can be part of the ceremony, rather than at the mercy of it.  This can be a life raft in the darkest of times. Times we can’t imagine getting through and times when human understanding and connection are needed the most.

For anyone who finds themselves standing in the river of loss, Apiana Greif support has several services, each with the purpose of helping you go through the grief process consciously. Conscious grief offers guidance, understanding and awareness of the grief process, support and the opportunity for hope and healing.

*Apiana, the botanical name for white sage, is a healing plant with a long standing history in indigenous ceremonies in North America.  There is no greater ceremony that we will go through in life than grief.

Samantha Canales MFA CGC

Samantha is a grief counselor, living in the Central Valley of California with a unique array of trainings and work and life experiences that inform her grief work.  She has worked within in a collective of Jungian Analysts for the past 27 years, giving her a deep understanding of the human psyche.  She is a published writer and artist, and for 10 years created and developed a non-profit that taught at-risk youth and incarcerated individuals how to create public art pieces and put out a literary magazine, as healing experiences for the individuals creating the work and the public that engaged with it.  And she innately draws on her personal background, which is a lifetime of involvement and experience with indigenous healing ceremonies.

Samantha is no stranger to grief, having experienced multiple losses in her lifetime, but it was the loss of her older brother to a fentanyl overdose that sparked her to create grief support programs in hard hit communities, with lack of services throughout the United States.

About Us

My journey to grief counseling started in the fifth grade where I met my teacher, Ted Wiard and his family in a small alternative school in Taos, New Mexico. I didn’t know then that it would end up being a lifelong connection forged by grief.
